Description

East Linton Station and Station House is a mid to late 18th century, two-storey farmhouse that has been reoriented to the west in the early 19th century. The building features a main facade with an additional two-storey, five-bay range. It is constructed from coursed sandstone ashlar with sandstone dressings, raised margins, giant angle pilasters, a cornice, and a low parapet. The sides and rear are made of random whinstone rubble with sandstone dressings, and the west-facing range has harled side and rear elevations.

On the west elevation, there is a doorway in an advanced two-storey central bay, which has bartisans and a crenellated parapet that breaks the eaves. The entrance features an attached columned doorpiece with an architrave and cornice, along with a radial fanlight and sidelights surrounding a panelled door. Above the door, there is a window on the first floor with a hoodmould. The ground floor has windows in the flanking bays, while smaller windows are present on the first floor.

The south elevation consists of a single bay with one blocked window on each floor, projecting at the right. This elevation adjoins an 18th-century farmhouse, which has a doorway at the center with a moulded architrave and a strip fanlight, along with windows in the flanking bays. There are three windows on the first floor, with a brick relieving arch to the outer left.

The east side has two irregular openings in the gable end, which leads to a workshop at ground level. The north side has a blank gable end that adjoins the station platform canopy. The building features sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, and lying-pane glazing is present on the ground floor of the west front. The roofs are covered in grey slates, with a piend roof on the facade and some skylights at the rear. The building has straight skews and renewed brick shouldered stacks, as well as wallhead stacks on the west front with a bracketed cornice.
