Description

43-49 John Finnie Street in Kilmarnock is an earlier 20th-century building that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, five-bay structure featuring classical details. The ground floor has modern shop fronts, while the building is constructed of red sandstone ashlar. The ground floor includes channelled piers, and there is a blind balustraded band course at the first floor. The first floor is divided by single and paired engaged Corinthian columns, with a lightly projecting canted central bay. Other features include an entablature, a balustraded parapet, and a blind parapet to the central bay with a raised cornice. There is a pend located on the right side of the building.

On the entrance elevation, the ground floor has a modern shop front with channelled piers. The slightly projecting central canted bay features a tripartite window on the front face and single windows on the side faces, with tripartite windows flanking the centre. An attic box dormer is located on the outer left. The glazing dates from around the 1920s, with opening top hoppers and fixed lower panes. The roof is pitched and covered with slate. The interior was not seen in 2001.
