Description

The Artist's House, located at 6 Grange Street in Kilmarnock, was built in 1818 and has had later additions and alterations. This two-storey, three-bay building was originally an artist's house and features an asymmetrical main elevation with some classical elements. Notable features include an Ionic doorway, a relief panel, and a Serlian window. The right gabled end has a Serlian window and pediment detailing, including a small segmental pediment at the apex. The exterior has a base course, raised cills, lintels with scrolled brackets, an eaves course, and a blocking course on the left range that has a central panel engraved with a figure of a reclining female artist, flanked by scrolls. The elevation is painted with raised margins.

On the west (main) elevation, there is a central entrance doorway framed by Ionic pilasters, an entablature, and a cornice. To the left, there is a blocked single window, while above, there are two single windows on the first floor. The taller two-storey gable to the right features a tripartite window at ground level and a Serlian window above. The windows have 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, with the Serlian window having 3 and 5 panes. The roof is slate with straight skews and a tall brick stack on the north gablehead, which has four pots.

The interior was not seen in 2001.
