23 Commercial Street, Dundee

23 Commercial Street in Dundee is an earlier 19th century commercial building that stands four storeys tall, with an attic and basement. It features a three-bay façade with shopfronts on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed of sandstone coursers with stugged sandstone ashlar dressings and has a grey slate roof. There is a lintel band above the ground floor and a wallhead course. The building has single and bipartite, four-pane timber sash and case windows, and a gabled wallhead slate-hung dormer, which may have been a former hoist door. The skews are ashlar-coped with skew blocks, and there is a gable stack on the left return.

On the front elevation, there are two doors, two plate-glass shop windows, and an enlarged close door on the ground floor. The first to third floors feature a bipartite window flanked by single windows on both sides, and the dormer has a bipartite window.

The rear elevation includes a door and two bipartite windows on the ground floor, with a bipartite window flanked by single windows on the left and right at the first to third floors. The openings to the wallhead dormer have been altered.
