53 Magdalen Yard Road, Dundee

53 Magdalen Yard Road is a villa built around 1840, featuring two storeys, a basement, and an attic. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the sides and rear are constructed from coursed rubble. The villa has a three-bay front with a prominent central bay, which includes a Doric columned entrance approached by railed steps. The ground floor windows have cornices, and there is a cill course on the first floor. The eaves are adorned with a cornice and a blocking course. The roof is a piended platform covered with slate, featuring two later consoled and pedimented bipartite dormers, as well as a small round-headed dormer in the centre. A large octagonal domed cupola is set within railings, and there are gable end stacks. Some of the glazing has been altered, and three small windows have been added to the rear elevation.

The interior was refashioned around 1870-1880 and includes a lobby ceiling with painted portraits of notable figures such as Gladstone, Disraeli, and Burns. There is also a fine stained glass inner doorpiece and stair window, along with pedimented doorpieces leading off the hall.
