Description
Salem Cottage is a small, two-storey, three-bay house built in the later 18th century. It is constructed from rubble with painted margins and has a well-proportioned appearance.
The south elevation features three bays, with a relieving arch above the central door, which has a cavetto-splayed design. There is a blocked ground floor door and a single window on the first floor of the west gable. The house has shouldered end stacks that were rebuilt in 19th century brick and a piended slate roof. Adjoining the cottage is a one-storey, one-bay west wing that connects to a group of out-houses, which are also rubble-built and have slate roofs.
The windows are sash and case style, with nine panes on the ground floor and twelve panes on the first floor.
