Salem Chapel, Salem Street, Dundee

Salem Chapel, built in 1872 by William Alexander, is a small rectangular church located on Salem Street in Dundee. The exterior is made of snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. Inside, the church has no aisles, but the west front features a "nave and aisle" design. The central part of the west front is flanked by stepped pinnacled buttresses and includes a three-light geometrical window with a hoodmoulded double chamfer. There is a porch entered from the side, topped with a gablet that has a finial and a two-light window below it. The sides of the chapel have single-light cusped windows with hoodmoulds and sculptured label stops. Diagonal buttresses at the corners are designed in a cathedral style. The flanks are plain rubble with simple lancet windows that have modern glazing. The east gable has a simple three-bay design and retains the original cathedral pane glazing on the west front. The roof is covered with slate.
