Marrbank, 6 Paradise Road, Dundee

Marrbank is a late 18th century, two-storey L-plan villa located at 6 Paradise Road in Dundee, with alterations made by Edward and Robertson in 1874. The building is constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings and features angle margins.

The southeast elevation has a three-bay front that is smooth rendered with quoined angles. The central entrance has a console pediment and architraved doorpiece, which is approached by steps that have been modified for disabled access. On either side of the entrance are mid-Victorian canted corniced bays topped with lead pentice roofs. The first floor has margined windows, and there are three bipartite dormers above.

The gables feature margined windows, along with small off-centre attic windows. An additional two-storey bay was added to the east, and a single-storey wing was added to the west in 1874.

At the rear, there is a mid-19th century piended-roofed stair outshot located in the re-entrant angle. The villa has slate roofs, and the main stacks have been rebuilt in brick. The windows are sash and case, with the original 12-pane glazing pattern retained in some side and rear windows, while the front windows were altered to a 4-pane design in 1874.

Additionally, there is a garage, which was formerly stables, situated at the corner of Paradise Road and Dudhope Street. This structure is rubble-built with a later brick gable on the west side. The property is enclosed by tall coped rubble-built boundary walls, which have been altered in some areas for vehicular access. There are two sets of corniced ashlar gatepiers on Paradise Road, one of which is rendered.
