Lamp Standard, Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

Dating to around 1900, these are eight tall cast-iron lamp standards located on Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee, with one additional shorter example opposite 31 Beach Crescent. The lamp standards likely date from the introduction of electric lighting to Broughty Ferry, as documented by the 'Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order' of 1900. Each standard features a round base decorated with a depiction of Broughty Castle and the inscription 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry' on the inspection door. The bases transition to slender, round columns via foliate moulding and ladder posts. The lamp holders are richly decorative, incorporating a starfish motif. One of the shorter standards has a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft of a patera design, lattice detailing and an anthemion capital, although the lantern is now missing.
