Lamp Standard, Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

These are eight tall cast-iron lamp standards, dating to around 1900, situated on Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee, with one shorter example opposite 31 Beach Crescent. The lamp standards likely date from the introduction of electric lighting to Broughty Ferry, as confirmed by the 'Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order' of 1900. Each standard has a round base featuring a depiction of Broughty Castle and the words 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry' on the inspection door. They feature foliate moulding which transitions to slender round columns with ladder posts and richly decorative lamp pendants displaying a starfish motif. The shorter lamp standard has a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft of patera and lattice design, and an anthemion capital, although the lantern is now missing.
