Lamp Standard, Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

Dating to approximately 1900, eight tall cast-iron lamp standards are located on Beach Crescent in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. The standards feature round bases decorated with a depiction of Broughty Castle and the inscription "Burgh of Broughty Ferry" on their inspection doors. They have foliate moulding that transitions to slender, round columns with ladder posts, topped by richly decorative lamp pendants displaying a starfish motif. One shorter lamp standard is positioned opposite number 31 Beach Crescent; this standard has a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft with a patera and lattice design, and an anthemion capital, although the lantern is now missing. These lamps likely date from the introduction of electric lighting to Broughty Ferry, as documented in the ‘Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order, 1900’.
