Description

These eight tall cast-iron lamp standards, plus one shorter example, are likely from around 1900. They probably date from when electric lighting was introduced to Broughty Ferry under the Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order of 1900. The lamp standards have round bases featuring a depiction of Broughty Castle and the words 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry' on the inspection door. They feature foliate moulding that transitions to slender, round columns with ladder posts, and richly decorative lamp pendants displaying a starfish motif. One shorter lamp standard, situated opposite 31 Beach Crescent, has a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft incorporating a patera design and lattice work, and an anthemion capital; the lantern is now missing.
