13 Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

This is a circa 1800, two-storey, three-bay double terraced house located at 13 Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee. The house is harled (roughcast) with painted margins, has a slate roof, a stone skew with skewputts, and an ashlar stack with a brick extension. It features four-pane sash and case windows, except for a multi-pane tripartite window on the first floor to the right.

The south elevation has an off-centre doorway, with a further door blocked and replaced by a window to the right. Two widely spaced windows flank the door, and there are three windows on the first floor. A mutual skew is present on the left side, and a skew with a ridge stack is on the right.

A squared rubble wall, continuing from 9 Beach Crescent, encloses the property to the south.

The house was incorporated with 9 Beach Crescent and 18-20 Gray Street to create an elderly ladies' home, previously known as the Home of Rest, which was established for retired domestic servants. It is depicted in an engraving of Beach Crescent in 1835, as featured in Bowman’s guidebook. An early plan of the development exists from 1801, as shown in Ivory’s Plan of the New Town at the North Ferry.
