Lamp Standard, Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

Dating to around 1900, the eight tall lamp standards on Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, are a significant group, likely installed following the introduction of electric lighting in 1900 under the 'Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order, 1900'. The standards are constructed of cast iron and feature round bases decorated with a depiction of Broughty Castle and the words 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry' on the inspection doors. They have foliate moulding, which transitions into slender round columns with ladder posts, finished with richly decorative lamp pendants incorporating a starfish motif. One shorter lamp standard, located opposite 31 Beach Crescent, stands apart with a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft of patera design and lattice work, and an anthemion capital, though the lantern is now missing.
