Lamp Standard, Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

These eight tall cast-iron lamp standards, dating to circa 1900, are located along Beach Crescent in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. A ninth, shorter lamp standard stands opposite number 31 Beach Crescent. The lamp standards likely date from the introduction of electric lighting to Broughty Ferry, an event authorised by the ‘Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order, 1900’. Each standard has a round base featuring a depiction of Broughty Castle and the inscription 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry’ on the inspection door. The bases are adorned with foliate moulding that transitions to slender round columns punctuated by ladder posts. The lamp heads are richly decorative, featuring a starfish motif. The shorter lamp standard has a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft with a patera and lattice design, and an anthemion capital, though the lantern is now missing.
