Description
Gowan Lea is a single-storey, three-bay cottage dating from 1823. The building is painted, with rendered and lined surfaces and a slate roof, and has rendered brick stacks. The front features a central door, above which is a transom-light with the painted inscription 'Gowan Lea'. Above the door is a lintel with the date '1823' carved into a lozenge-shaped panel. There are two four-light sash and case windows, and a modern central skylight. The right side has a coped skew. The building forms a pair with the property at number 8 Bath Street. The group value context is that it is a well-preserved example of an early 19th century cottage.
