Description
These eight tall cast-iron lamp standards, dating from around 1900, are located on Beach Crescent in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. They likely date from the introduction of electric lighting to the area, as confirmed by the ‘Broughty Ferry Electric Lighting Order, 1900.’ Each standard has a round base depicting Broughty Castle and the words 'Burgh of Broughty Ferry' on an inspection door. The bases are topped with foliate moulding, which transitions to slender round columns featuring ladder posts. The lamp standards are highly decorative, with lamp pendants incorporating a starfish motif. One shorter lamp standard, positioned opposite number 31 Beach Crescent, features a richly moulded tiered base, a shaft with a patera and lattice design, and an anthemion capital; the lantern is now missing.
