Description
Wellwood is a house located at 63 Fort Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, dating from 1843. It is a three-storey, three-bay, irregular U-plan fronted house, constructed with harled walls and painted door and window margins that are mainly chamfered. The roof is slate-covered. The windows are a mix of 2-, 4-, and 12-pane sash and case styles, and the house features coped crow-stepped gables on the east elevation, along with moulded stacks.
On the east elevation, there are three bays with a central entrance set within a single-storey porch that has modern doors. Above the entrance is a crow-stepped parapet displaying an armorial with the initial 'A' (the second initial is missing) and the date 1843. There is a window set back on the first floor, with flanking gables that are advanced on the right, featuring a base course and margined angles. The ground and first floors have symmetrical windows, with narrow projecting lintels above the first-floor windows.
The north elevation has an off-centre door with a transom light to the left, flanked by asymmetrical windows, and smaller windows above on the first floor. There is a blind wall on the right side and two widely spaced wallhead stacks.
The west (rear) elevation is irregular, featuring three parallel piended roofs and an advanced gable on the right with a slightly lower ridge.
The south elevation displays a variety of window openings.
