Description
Greywalls, located at 452 Perth Road in Dundee, is a two-storey building designed by Patrick Thoms in 1929, showcasing late Arts and Crafts architectural style with a picturesquely asymmetrical design. The exterior features random rubble construction with ashlar margins.
On the south elevation, there is a near-centre gable that includes a two-storey, five-light bow window. To the east, a four-light mullioned window is situated on the ground floor, accompanied by a similar dormer set in a low swept roof. A rustic loggia is present, supported by square and cylindrical piers with a corbelled balcony, located in the re-entrant angle formed by the canted prow, which features one- and two-light windows that boldly project to the west.
The entrance elevation displays a two-storey arched chamfered entrance, with one- and two-light windows to the west. A projecting circular stair tower topped with a conical roof and weather-vane is also a notable feature. The eastern side has a steep swept roof with a small single-storey piend-roofed wing. There are two rubble-built stacks.
The gabled and piended roof is covered with large stone slates. The building includes fixed and casement windows with a multiple diamond-pane glazing pattern. The interior remains intact, showcasing fine woodwork, inglenook chimneypieces, and coved plaster ceilings.
