Description

Ireland and MacLaren, 1881, 2-storey and attic 4-house

terrace, ashlar-fronted, rubble sides and rear.

S elevation: symmetrical, tripartite doorpieces with

bracketted blind pierced parapets over. Paired canted bays

rise through both floors. Main cornice and Gothic detailed

parapet broken by round-headed dormers. French pavilion

roof with fish-scale slates and lead cap.

W elevation: single-bay return with ground floor bipartite

and 1st floor altered in early 20th century to receive

unusual bracketted oriel. Main gable with 2 tall stair

windows, stepped hoodmoulds. Service wings project to rear.

Slate roofs, corniced ashlar ridge stacks. Sash and case

windows, single-pane glazing pattern.

Interiors: plaster cornices and marble fireplaces. No 309,

for example, has anaglypta dado in living room and Victorian

pannelled bathroom, mirror-surround and shower cabinet.

Low boundary walls, cast-iron railed in part, with square

ashlar gatepiers.
