Description

Sidmount Cottage, located on Sidmount Avenue in Moffat, was built in 1836 and features the initials MB along with the date. This single-storey villa has a symmetrical three-bay front with a prominent central entrance bay that is advanced and pedimented. The exterior is finished with neatly graded coursers and painted ashlar dressings. The entrance includes a pilastered doorpiece, flanked by tripartite windows that have chamfered reveals, apron panels, and lying-pane glazing. There are angle margins, an eaves band, and a cornice, with a low tile roof. The south elevation features a tripartite window at the west end and a recessed verandah adorned with fine cast-ironwork. Additionally, there are retractable canopies over the windows. The pitch piended roof has unfortunately been recovered with modern grey materials.
