Annan Academy, Station Road, Annan

Annan Academy, designed by Frank C Carruthers of Dumfries and Lockerbie around 1896, is a single-storey school building with attics, featuring a central tower. It showcases a Free Renaissance style and is constructed from bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings. The windows are mostly mullioned and transomed, adorned with ornamental heads or pediments, and exhibit a variety of glazing patterns, including some multi-paned upper sashes. The building has slate roofs.

The long symmetrical west elevation is divided into three three-bay ranges. The outer ranges are L-shaped with porches in the re-entrant angles, while the inner range is shallowly recessed and features a pierced parapet, a main door, and canted windows. The tower and attic storey are set back and have high roofs behind. The square tower has engaged angle shafts that rise above the parapet into ogee-roofed turrets. Below the cornice, there are arcaded belfry openings, and the tower is topped with a slated and leaded ogee-roofed cupola.

At the rear, there is a small detached octagonal structure with a wide round-arched doorway, a facetted roof, and a louvred apex ventilator capped with lead.
