Central Hotel, Station Road, Annan

The Central Hotel, located on Station Road in Annan, was built around 1900. This three-storey hotel features turrets and gables, showcasing Renaissance ornamentation and is situated on a corner site. It is constructed of red ashlar with decorative band courses, and most windows include stone transoms. The narrow southern end has full-height octagonal corner bays with turrets flanking the main entrance. The entrance itself features a curved porch supported by columns, with a Jacobean-style columned balcony on the first floor above. The shaped wall-head gable is complemented by flanking stacks. The hotel's elevation facing St John's Road is symmetrical, with turretted outer bays and a shallow, advanced wide inner bay that has a shaped gable. The intermediate bays are adorned with pedimented wall-head dormers. The roofs are steeply pitched and slate-covered, with facetted designs over the turrets. Inside, the original work was completed by Messrs Taylor and Sons of Edinburgh, although some modern alterations have been made.
