Market Hall, 12 Downie's Wynd, Annan

The Public Hall at 8 Downie's Wynd in Annan is a market hall built in the later 19th century, consisting of two adjoining buildings that are nearly contemporary. The structure is two storeys high and constructed of bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings. It features a continuous cornice over the ground floor, and each building has a similarly detailed bracketed cornice. The original glazing has been retained throughout, and the building has straight skews, end stacks, and a continuous slate roof.

The southern range has nine bays with square-headed openings and wide ground floor openings divided by stone piers. It also includes two foreshortened roof ventilators and incorporates earlier walling at the rear. Inside, the hall is supported by cast-iron columns.

The northern range consists of six bays, with one bay plus five close-spaced bays that feature segmental-arched openings. There is a door on the left, while the other ground floor openings are arcaded.
