1 Charlotte Street, Dumfries

1 Charlotte Street in Dumfries is a late classical corner office building dating from around 1870. It features a French pavilion roof and stands two storeys tall with a railed basement. The building has a single bay quadrant corner with a first-floor balcony and four bays facing Buccleuch Street, where paired windows at the ground level are topped by a balcony. The exterior is finished in polished red ashlar with shaped architraves and pilaster strips at the angles, which are channelled at the ground level. There are band courses and strings between the floors, and the windows are plate glass sashes.

The elevation facing Charlotte Street also consists of four bays, with the left two bays advanced. The outer bay rises to three storeys and features an adjoining bay with an iron-crested pavilion roof, square angle chimney shafts, and a dormer with a circular light. There is a porch located in the re-entrant angle. The building is topped with a cornice, has a blocking course, corniced stacks, and a piended slate roof.
