Description
St Michael's Lodge, located on George Street in Dumfries, was designed by A B Crombie in 1889. This single-storey building features a railed basement and is constructed from red ashlar in a Free Renaissance style. The front has three bays, with an arched doorway set in concave-splayed recesses, flanked by Ionic columns. Above the doorway is a shaped and pedimented head that includes a masonic roundel supported by figures adorned with swags. The flanking bays contain recessed double-arched windows with baluster centre shafts, vermiculated aprons, and channelled pilasters. A swagged frieze runs along the top, and the building is topped with a balustraded parapet and a slated pavilion roof with finials. The door surround and swagged frieze are made of terra-cotta.
