The Round House, John Street, Dalbeattie

The Round House on John Street in Dalbeattie is a large, two-storey, four-bay rectangular house that dates back to around 1800, although it underwent significant re-fronting in the mid-19th century. The building features a full-height, boldly projecting bow on the right side, which has an embattled parapet. The original structure is largely hidden, with a shop occupying the ground floor.

The exterior is constructed of bull-faced granite with polished margins. The shop front includes a central door flanked by large plate glass windows. On the first floor, there are three single light windows with sash and case frames, featuring four-pane glazing. To the left, there is a recessed bay with a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and a plate glass window above it.

The building has coped end skews and a sandstone ridge, while the bow is topped with a deep embattled parapet that includes a central pediment. The roofs are covered with slate.
