Smithy, 5 Low Vennel, Wigtown

The building is a smithy located at 5 Low Vennel in Wigtown, dating from the early to earlier 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay house that is joined to a workshop on the right. The structure is made of painted rubble and features channelled quoins that divide the properties, although some have been removed. There is a base course at the three-bay house. The entrance is centrally located and consists of a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above, flanked by small windows, with two additional windows on the first floor.

The right return elevation retains the lower gable of a formerly adjoining property. The smithy to the left has a later sliding machinery door on the right and a window on the left, along with two first-floor windows providing accommodation above. The left return elevation shows evidence of a former adjoining property. Some of the sash and case windows retain 4-pane glazing, while others have been blocked. The house has a Rubberoid roofing material and features end and mutual gable stacks.
