Description
This is a late 18th-century house and former smithy, originally called The Old Smithy (incorrectly named 'The Forge' on Ordnance Survey maps). The building is constructed of squared rubble stone, with coarser rubble in the gables, and has a pantile roof. It is two storeys high with three first-floor windows. A single-storey, one-bay smithy is located to the right. The central entrance has a part-glazed four-panel door beneath a stone lintel. The first floor windows are 16-pane sashes with stone sills and lintels, with a narrower sash window above the door. End chimney stacks are present. The smithy has one two-light window with vertical wooden glazing bars and an end stack; a furnace hearth remains inside. A rear extension is not considered to be of architectural significance.
