Description
Number 45 and the former smithy is a house and former smithy, likely dating from the early 18th century, with significant alterations. The building features partly-rendered rubble and has pantiled roofs along with a rebuilt brick chimney stack. The house includes a gabled rear wing and the smithy is located on the right side.
The house is two storeys high and has two windows. The door has been replaced and features a 4-pane overlight within a 19th-century surround. This surround has alternating jambs with vermiculate rustication and a corniced lintel. To the right, there is a late 20th-century canted bay window. Above the door, there is a small 4-pane casement, and to the right, a 6-pane sash window set in a wooden architrave. The roof has raised verges and two late 20th-century skylights, with a stack at the right end.
The single-storey smithy has a Dutch door and a 16-pane horizontal-sliding sash window to the left. It features a steeply-pitched roof with slightly-swept eaves. The rear wing consists of two low storeys. This building is included for its group value.
