Description
The Old Smithy is a house and smithy with several phases of construction, dating from the late 18th century but with earlier origins. It is built of limestone rubble brought to course and has a pantile roof. The smithy is located to the left, while the house is a two-cell direct-entry structure to the right, with a straight joint between the two and parallel cross wings at the rear. The building is two storeys high, featuring two first-floor windows in the house. The smithy has an outshut at the front that includes double board doors and a roof that is hipped to the right. There is a two-light Yorkshire sash window on the right return of the smithy. The house's right section is lower and set back, with a four-panel door flanked by two-light Yorkshire sashes on the right return. The first floor has squat two-light Yorkshire sashes. Both right gables have gable coping and shaped kneelers, and there is a stack at the right end and ridge. The interior originally contained smithy equipment and other features, but these have now been removed.
