Description
The dovecote, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, is located in Appleton-le-Street, North Yorkshire. It has been re-roofed in the 20th century and is constructed from squared limestone with a pantile roof. The building is rectangular in shape and consists of a single storey. It features a low plank door with a timber lintel on the north side and a moulded projecting string course. There are square openings above the string course on the south side and the east gable end. The gables are coped and have shaped kneelers. Inside, all four walls are lined with nesting boxes that include landing platforms. The dovecote is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, number 374, and was noted to be disused and in a dilapidated state at the time of the resurvey.
