Description

West Grange Farmhouse and the attached garage are likely a former farmhouse, cottage, and carriage-shed, now functioning as a farmhouse and garage. The building dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of dressed sandstone with a pantile roof and rebuilt brick stacks. The structure is two stories high with a six-bay front. The original house doorway has been blocked, leaving only the wedge lintel, while the current entrance is located at the rear. The entrance to the former cottage in the center has been replaced by a 19th-century three-light, small-pane horizontal-sliding sash window. To the right end, there are plank double doors with a long timber lintel. Flanking the original house doorway are three-light, 24-pane horizontal-sliding sashes. There is a blocked opening with a timber lintel above the house doorway, and part-slatted, small-pane fixed lights above the double doors. The remaining first-floor openings consist of three-light horizontal-sliding sashes, all featuring wedge lintels and stone sills. The building has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with stacks located at the left end and to the left and right of the center. The buildings were undergoing modernization at the time of resurvey.
