Description
Spencers Hotel, located at 15-17 Church Street in Stranraer, is an earlier 19th-century, three-storey and attic, three-bay terraced tenement designed in a classical style. The building features a shop and a public house on the ground floor and is finished with painted render. It has a base course and flanking pilasters around the openings on the ground floor, which support a cornice above. The upper-floor openings are framed with roll moulding, and there are gabled dormers.
On the southwest (entrance) elevation, the central door to the tenement is pilastered with colonnettes and topped with a cornice. To the right, there is a corniced fascia for the shop, which previously had a door and window; the door is now a window. The left side also has a corniced fascia for the door and shop. The first floor has regular fenestration, while the second floor features two single windows at the center and single windows on either side. There are three dormers in the attic.
The building has modern windows, a grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interiors were not seen in 1997.
