Description
Outertown is a farmhouse built in the earlier to mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure located at the south end of a courtyard steading. The main roof slopes down to one and a half storeys towards the courtyard, and the building is constructed from rubble with ashlar margins, having been whitewashed facing the courtyard.
The south elevation features three unequal bays, with an altered inner doorway that has a modern door and a pulvinated frieze and cornice placed asymmetrically over the architrave. The ground floor windows have been slightly enlarged in the 19th century, while the original first-floor windows retain chamfered reveals, although two have modern glazing. The building also has a moulded cornice, end stacks, and a slate roof.
On the courtyard elevation, there is an off-centre door set in a lugged bolection-moulded architrave, with a contemporary window to the right that has chamfered margins. Other openings on this side are not original. The wide wall-head gable features casement windows. The west wing, which is built on a slope, includes a basement and a forestair at the northwest. A stone platform on the west flank rests on a square monolith and supports an oil tank.
