Description
Waterside Mains is a large farmhouse built in the earlier 19th century, specifically in 1828. It is a two-storey structure situated on a slope to the west, with a small courtyard steading located at the rear (north). The building is constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings and is entirely whitewashed.
The farmhouse features a four-bay south elevation, which is arranged as three bays plus one, with a central porch and end stacks. There is a basement in the fourth bay on the left, which is accessed from the west gable. The porch, added in the mid-19th century, includes a round-arched window. The other windows are sash types with 12-pane glazing. The roof has straight skews that are saw-toothed over the porch, and there are corniced end stacks. The roof is covered with graded slates. The elevation facing the courtyard is asymmetrical.
The steading is a single-storey L-plan structure. The west arm includes doors and a cartway leading to the courtyard, along with a lean-to that has a stone slab roof to the west. There is also a small gabled wing built at the basement level, featuring a wall-head stack above.
