Description
Cleuchead Bridge is a picturesque estate bridge, likely built in the late 18th century. It features a single segmental arch that carries a driveway between Mount Annan and Cleuchead over Butcherbeck Burn, which is situated above the River Annan. The bridge is constructed from coursed and squared rubble, with droved, stugged, or polished dressings. There is a narrow pavement on either side of the stream beneath the bridge, with alcove niches in the abutments located underneath the arch. Band courses at the impost level extend below the arch, and the parapets are supported above the recessed arch rings on square blocking. The shallow ramped parapets are slightly splayed at the approaches.
