Description
Probably dating to the late 18th century, Cleuchead Bridge is a picturesque estate bridge carrying a driveway between Mount Annan and Cleuchead over Butcherbeck Burn, situated above the River Annan. The bridge is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with droved, stugged, or polished dressings. It features a single segmental arch, and narrow pavements are situated below the bridge on either side of the stream. Alcove niches are incorporated into the abutments underneath the arch. Band courses are present at the impost level, continuing below the arch. Parapets are supported above recessed arch rings on square blocking, and include shallow ramped parapets slightly splayed at the approaches. The bridge was noted as being neglected in 1987. It is located within Annan Parish.
