22 South Main Street, Wigtown

This building, located at 22 South Main Street in Wigtown, dates from around 1800 and is a two-storey, three-bay house featuring a prominent pedimented central bay. The exterior is finished with dry-wash walling that has raised angles and window margins. On the far left, there is a Doric columned porch that exhibits heavy entasis. The entrance includes a well-crafted recessed panelled door, although the fanlight above it has been blocked. All windows are single light, sash and case style, with plate glass glazing. The house has an eaves cornice and a blocking course, with raised painted end skews. The corniced rusticated end stacks include some octagonal cans. The roof is covered with Rubberoid and features skylights, while the building is equipped with cast-iron rainwater goods. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing with a broad gable.
