Description
139 and 140 North Drumlanrig Street, along with 138 Thornhill, are a pair of symmetrical two-storey, three-bay houses designed by architect John Coltart around 1875, featuring Tudor architectural elements. The buildings are constructed of stugged pinkish coursers with polished dressings. They have Tudor-arched openings, most of which are hood-moulded. Each house features an advanced and gabled inner bay, a central panelled door with a fanlight above, and a corbelled oriel above the door. The outer bays contain bipartite windows, and there are gabled dormer heads on the first floor at both the front and rear elevations. The houses also have corniced end and axial stacks, topped with a slate roof.
