Description

Lynwood is a house located at 1 Corvisel Road in Newton Stewart, built in 1884 by Richard Park. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features three bays. The structure is made of whinstone that is squared and snecked, with red sandstone ashlar dressings, bull-faced quoins, and ashlar mullions.

On the east elevation, there is a central door with a pilastered and corniced surround, featuring a segmental doorway and a plate glass fanlight above a panelled door. Above this, there is a single window on the first floor. The flanking bays consist of tripartite windows at the ground level and bipartite windows on the first floor. The outer bays have canted timber dormers that are slate-hung and have piend roofs with corbelled eaves.

The side gables are mostly blank, while the rear has cat-slide and piend-roofed wings. The sash and case windows have a plate glass glazing pattern. The house has ashlar coped skews and rusticated stacks with a full complement of cans, all covered with graded grey slates.

Additionally, there are square, corniced red sandstone ashlar piers that terminate the ashlar coped whinstone boundary wall to the east. This wall features decorative cast-iron railings and a flanking pedestrian gate made from the same material.
