Smithy House, Dow Brae, Yetholm

Smithy House, located at Dow Brae in Yetholm, is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay house that has undergone some alterations. These include the addition of a second storey, likely in the early 20th century, and the demolition of an adjacent building, probably occurring in the early to mid-20th century. The house is constructed from squared and snecked whinstone, featuring cream sandstone dressings with long and short dressings.

The south elevation, which faces the entrance, has a doorway at the centre with a timber panelled door and a small rectangular fanlight above it. There is a single window on the first floor directly above the door, and single windows are located in the outer bays to the left and right.

The east elevation is gabled and has a single window that is offset to the left. The west elevation features a blank gable with raggles.

The house has 8-pane sash and case windows and is topped with a grey slate roof. There is a brick gablehead stack on the east side and a truncated brick stack on the west side, with coped gables.

Additionally, there is a coped whinstone rubble boundary wall that runs along the street.
