Description
Braeside is a mid 19th century house with later additions and alterations, located on Ettrick Terrace in Selkirk. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a single-storey wing to the north. The building is constructed of squared and snecked whinstone, featuring raised polished sandstone ashlar margins and droved tails, with whinstone rubble used for the side and rear elevations. It has a base course, an eaves course, and slightly raised quoins.
On the west elevation, there is a deep-set panelled door with a plate glass rectangular fanlight above it, framed by a pilastered and corniced doorpiece. A window is located at the first floor above the door, with additional windows on each floor of the flanking bays. To the right of the single-storey wing on the outer left, there is a window along with a modern glazed addition.
The east elevation was not seen in 1996. The house features plate glass timber sash and case windows and a slate piended roof with tall whinstone and ashlar coped stacks on the north and south elevations.
The interior was not seen in 1996.
The boundary wall is made of whinstone rubble with rounded ashlar coping, complemented by decorative cast-iron railings and a gate.
There are outbuildings positioned to the southeast, constructed of whinstone rubble with a piended slate roof. They feature a boarded double door on the northwest with a timber lintel and a recently-blinded hay-loft opening that breaks the eaves, topped with a cat-slide roof to the southeast. A later harled addition with a corrugated roof is located to the northeast.
