Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey 4-bay house. Whinstone with red sandstone dressings. Overhanging eaves, exposed rafters; regular fenestration.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: principal 3-bay block to left with pilastered and corniced doorpiece at centre; panelled door, WHITESTONE HOUSE carved in frieze; plate glass fanilight above surmounted by pediment supported on scroll-flanked panelled dies. Left bay advanced and gabled with tripartite window at ground and Venetian window at 1st floor. To far right, lower 2-storey bay set back slightly.

E ELEVATION: irregular 3-bay, facing park. Stone mullioned and transomed stair window at centre; window to right at 1st floor; to left, bipartite window at ground, Venetian window at 1st floor with gabled dormerhead; timber gable applied to wallhead stack.

S ELEVATION: 2-bay principal block; at ground, tripartite window to right, piend-roofed canted window to left; Venetian windows at 1st floor, with gabled dormerheads. Slightly set back bay to left with pentice roof.

W ELEVATION: irregular 2-bay; stepping down to right.

Timber sash and case windows; variety of glazing. Piended roofs; grey slates; corniced stacks with decorative square cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1994.

BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble boundary walls with semicircular ashlar coping.
