Description
Whitestone House, located on Innerleithen Road in Peebles, is a late 19th-century, two-storey, four-bay house constructed from whinstone with red sandstone dressings. The building features overhanging eaves and exposed rafters, with a regular arrangement of windows.
On the north elevation, the main three-bay block is positioned to the left and includes a pilastered and corniced doorpiece at the center. This features a panelled door with "WHITESTONE HOUSE" carved in the frieze, and a plate glass fanlight above, topped by a pediment supported by scroll-flanked panelled dies. The left bay is advanced and gabled, showcasing a tripartite window on the ground floor and a Venetian window on the first floor. To the far right, there is a lower two-storey bay that is set back slightly.
The east elevation, which faces the park, is an irregular three-bay design. It has a stone mullioned and transomed stair window at the center, a window to the right on the first floor, and a bipartite window at ground level to the left. There is also a Venetian window on the first floor with a gabled dormer head. A timber gable is applied to the wallhead stack.
The south elevation consists of a two-bay principal block. On the ground floor, there is a tripartite window to the right and a piend-roofed canted window to the left. The first floor features Venetian windows with gabled dormer heads. There is a slightly set back bay to the left with a pentice roof.
The west elevation is an irregular two-bay design that steps down to the right. The house is fitted with timber sash and case windows, showcasing a variety of glazing. The roofs are piended and covered with grey slates, and there are corniced stacks with decorative square cans.
The boundary walls surrounding the property are made of rubble and topped with semicircular ashlar coping.
