Description

Braefield House is a late 19th-century, two-storey house with an irregular three-bay plan, located on Braefield Road in Portpatrick. The building is constructed from whinstone with painted dressings, featuring a base course, a mutule cornice, quoins, and window surrounds.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has three bays. The outer right bay is gabled and set forward. The entrance is centrally located and has a shouldered design with a modern door that includes a narrow letterbox fanlight. To the right of the entrance is a narrow window, while to the left is a corniced tripartite window. The first floor has regular fenestration. The advanced bay features hoodmoulds over a tripartite window at the ground floor and a bipartite window at the first floor. There are single windows on both floors of the return to the re-entrant angle.

The windows are mostly modern, with some blinded. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews and coped gablehead stacks.

The boundary walls are made of coped whinstone, complemented by decorative railings. The interior was not seen in 1997.
