Description

The Manse on Innerleithen Road in Peebles is a villa built in the later 19th century, featuring three stories and three bays with design elements inspired by Scottish 17th century architecture. The exterior is made of stugged coursed cream sandstone ashlar, accented with bull-faced margins and quoins, as well as some polished dressings. The secondary elevations are constructed from whinstone. The building has chamfered arrises and steeply pitched gableheads on the south elevation.

On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a centrally located boarded door with wrought-iron hinges and a rectangular plate glass fanlight above it, topped with a consoled pediment. A window is positioned on the first floor, while a second-floor window breaks the eaves and features a pedimented dormerhead with a rose finial. The right bay contains bipartite windows on the ground and first floors, with a similar window on the second floor topped by a thistle finial. The left bay showcases a two-storey canted ashlar window that is corbelled to a square shape at the second floor and gabled, framed by shafts with annulets and a segmental pediment adorned with finials.

The east and west elevations have windows located at the center and northern bays on the ground and second floors, with a window at the center of the first floor. The windows are timber sash and case with four panes, while the canted windows feature plate glass. The roof is covered with purple slates and has ashlar coped skews, corbelled kneeler skewputts with finials, and coped apex stacks.

The boundary wall surrounding the property is made of whinstone with a saddleback ashlar coping. The gatepiers are also made of ashlar, featuring chamfered arrises and flattened pyramidal coping.
