Graham Cottage, 16 Elcho Street, Peebles

Graham Cottage, located at 16 Elcho Street in Peebles, was built around 1890. This single-storey and attic house features three bays and is constructed from snecked and stugged cream sandstone with ashlar margins, while the secondary elevations are made of whinstone. The building has long and short vermiculated quoins.

The front elevation includes a base course and moulded lugged architraves. At the center, there is a two-leaf panelled door topped with a plate glass letterbox fanlight, and a bipartite window to the right. The outer bays have canted piend-roofed dormers, and there is a later box dormer in the center.

The east elevation features a gable with a window to the left at ground level. The west elevation is a blank gable. The rear elevation has a lean-to at ground level and a large box dormer.

The windows are timber sash and case, with plate glass on the ground floor. The roof is covered with grey slates arranged in a pattern with bands of fish-scales, and there are ashlar coped skews with gablet skewputs that have blind trefoils inset.

The interior was not seen during the 1994 inspection. The front wall consists of a low rubble wall with saddleback ashlar coping and modern wrought-iron railings, complemented by square ashlar gatepiers topped with pyramidal caps.
