Description

2 Princes Street in Newton Stewart is a two-storey terrace of houses, dated 1868 on the gable chimney. The terrace includes No 2, which is a three-bay house, and Nos 4 and 6, which are a pair of two-bay houses. The exterior is constructed of snecked bull-faced and squared whinstone, featuring flat raised margins and rusticated quoins.

No 2 has a central pilastered doorway with a panelled door and fanlight. Nos 4 and 6 each have paired central doors, with No 6 having a well-crafted panelled door, both also featuring fanlights. All houses have single light sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing. The roofs are slate, complemented by corniced axial brick stacks with ceramic quoins and octagonal cans.

The gable wall of No 2 faces Dashwood Square and has a two-window arrangement. The Dashwood Square elevation displays similar detailing with a three-bay and one-bay, two-storey house that is linked by a wide pend, which has a room above it, to the gable of No 2. This elevation features a central pilastered doorpiece, a panelled door with a fanlight, and single light sash and case windows with 2-pane plate glass glazing, including a single light window above the pend. The roofs are slate, with end skews to the left, a coped end, and axial stacks. The rear elevations are made of painted rubble, with a full-height brick extension to No 4.
