Description

Smugglers Cove, located at 15 North Crescent in Portpatrick, is a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century for No 15 and the earlier 19th century for No 13, with a later 19th century attic addition. These two-storey, seven-bay cottages have an asymmetrical plan and feature a shop at ground level, facing the harbour. The exterior is harled with painted mouldings around the openings.

On the southwest elevation, the entrance to No 13 is located on the right, featuring a timber door with a narrow letterbox fanlight. To the left, there is a stone-mullioned bipartite window, and above, a single window at the first floor breaks the eaves. The gablehead is adorned with decorative timber bargeboarding and a finial. No 15 has a single window at the centre with entrances flanking it; to the left is a timber and glass door, and to the right is a two-leaf timber door, with single windows on the outer left and right. The first floor of No 15 has three single windows.

No 15 features plate glass windows, while No 13 has modern windows and a rooflight. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, using unusually large slates, and includes stone skews, a coped gablehead, ridge stacks, and circular cans.

The interiors were not seen during the 1997 inspection. The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall, with decorative railings at No 13.
