16 Pittville Street, Joppa, Edinburgh

16 Pittville Street in Joppa, Edinburgh, is a pair of classical cottages built in 1814, with some later additions and alterations. These two-storey, two-bay terraced cottages are constructed from droved sandstone with polished dressings, featuring a base course, a first-floor cill course, a cornice, and a blocking course.

The northwest (principal) elevation showcases a pilastraded doorpiece with panelled doors at the center, where No 16 has Edinburgh fittings. Above the doors are rectangular fanlights made of plate glass. The first-floor windows are arranged asymmetrically, with a bipartite window for No 18, where the right half is blinded, and a window for No 16. To the outer right of No 16, there is a later full-height timber canted window, while the outer left bay of No 18 has windows on each floor.

The southeast (rear) elevation is not fully visible as of 1994, but both houses have extensions; No 16 features a two-storey extension at the center and a bay to the right, while No 18 has a single-storey extension at the center.

The cottages have timber sash and case windows with 12 and 8 panes, as well as plate glass. They are topped with a grey slate roof and have end stacks, with an additional slate roof extension for No 16.

The interiors were not seen in 1994. The boundary walls surrounding the property are rendered and topped with coping.
